The Strong Bucks Scam in Wichita

The latest electronic checking scam has hit Wichita and at least one bank, Intrust Bank, claims there is nothing they can do about it.

Someone or some group named The Strong Bucks somehow gets your name, checking-account number and routing number and then cuts a false electronic check for $99.75.  Since the electronic checks have their account holders name printed on it, Intrust Bank has been paying the check, leaving their customers out in the cold.

I think one of the most disturbing things about this scam and how Intrust Bank responds to it is that Intrust Bank knows about the scam and still pays out on the fraudulent checks.

This scam is not limited only to Wichita… it is happening all over the country.  There is a blog called "The Strong Bucks Scam," that catalogues at least 45 victims of the scam living in 22 different states, all reporting the
same dollar amount.
