Wichita Greyhound Park closes

After 18 years, the Wichita Greyhound Park closed its doors on October 6, 2007. The decision to close the track came after Sedgwick County voters voted down a plan to put slot machines at the track. That coupled with declining revenues forced the track to close leaving it's more than 200 employees without a job.

Greyhound Park General Manager Phil Ruffin, Jr. says the track will be closed for the remainder of the park's two year lease. After that, it will be up to the county who owns the land to decide what if anything will replace the park.
