Where Are The Executive Level Jobs?

Are you an executive in the job market? It's been my experience that executive-level job changers seem to have the most difficult time out in the job market. They tell me things like "I have never had to look for a job before" or "I just don't know where to start".

To receive multiple, high quality interviews for key executive positions you must have a clear plan, followed by a significant level of market exposure. Here are several highly effective techniques and resources to get your phone ringing in no time:

Directly Contacting Companies
Did you know approximately 80% of key positions are filled before they are ever advertised? Contacting companies and their respective decision makers is a great way to gain in roads and initiate discussions that lead to interviews. Better yet, contact companies who are in a growth mode. Want to add some rocket fuel to that? Introduce a value proposition to help them in their growth mode. Are you a turnaround or start up expert? Send your resume to venture capital firms.

Recruiters
Recruiters can be very helpful if you plan to remain in the same industry and/or function. And since recruiters are generally driven by industry vs. geography, don't forget to connect with those recruiters that match your industry, but may be out of State.

Online
There ARE benefits to searching on line as long as you aren't spending hours and hours each week surfing for that lone executive job! Save yourself a whole lot of time and use a combination of job aggregators and niche executive job boards to locate senior level jobs quickly and easily.

Foreclosures in Wichita KS

As in other communities around the country, foreclosure rates in Kansas have been steadily increasing over the last couple of years. Subprime foreclosure rates in Wichita, although high, didn't show a clear upward trend in 2008 and may signal that the subprime crisis has peaked here.

While the subprime mortgage situation in Kansas is far less dire than in coastal markets, many homeowners in Wichita have fallen behind on their mortgage payments because of the adjusting mortgage rates. At present, 554 houses are in foreclosure in Wichita — more than usual and at rates below the national averages, Wichita looks pretty good compared to the soaring rate of foreclosures in the nation as a whole. The foreclosure rate in Wichita among outstanding mortgages was 0.74 percent during July, up from 0.69 percent from a year earlier. That was lower than the national foreclosure rate of 1.6 percent.

Boeing IAM 751 Machinists Strike

Boeing Co. machinists walked out on strike Saturday after contract talks arbitrated by a federal mediator failed to produce an agreement. While strikers say the key issues for them include pay, outsourcing, retirement and health care benefits, the rank-and-file members just don't get it.

One striking Boeing worker said, "We're not greedy, we just want a piece of the pie. They offer us bonuses. We don't want bonuses." Machinists want an improved 401k and improved vacation, he said. But, what good is an improved 401k if they're going to allow the government to continue to devalue any gain they manage to achieve?

Boeing's three-year contract offer included bonuses totaling at least $5,000 and averaging $6,400, raises averaging 11 percent, pension increases and a 3 percent cost-of-living adjustment — $34,000 in average pay and benefit gains per employee, according to the company.

The average Boeing machinist earns $27 an hour, or about $56,000 a year, before overtime and incentives.

While I would agree a 11 percent raise and 3 percent cost-of-living adjustment is a joke, the punch line is not the amount of raise or COLA… it's the fact that some of these same machinists will go to the polls in November and choose a corporate picked Presidential candidate that will reduce the purchasing power of whatever raise they get by far more than anything they hope to gain.

Union officials said it was the issues of job security and rising health costs that could not be resolved. But, it's these same union officials that will support the hand-picked corporate Presidential candidate that will outsource more jobs overseas and raise everybody's taxes in order to line the pockets of their health care industry buddies as they fleece American workers.

The corporate political puppets in government don't want you to "get it," your union bosses don't want you to "get it," the Boeing Company doesn't want you to "get it," and the striking machinists certainly don't get it. So, they strike and whatever concessions they manage to get will be gone before they collect their next paycheck.

Until the workers at Boeing and across America wake up to the looting going on with their labor, stand up to the forces that are stealing their wealth, demand accountability from their leaders, and a return to a sound monetary policy, the cycle will continue… and you will lose.

Gardening Gifts for All Occasions

There is nothing nicer than receiving a gift relating to one's passion. If your loved one's passion is gardening, then show your thoughtfulness by giving a gift that will be truly appreciated.
There are so many great gardening gifts that the only constraint is your own budget.

MML Promo

If your budget is small, go for things like gloves, kneepads or even a shady hat. A pretty pot (or a watering-can) filled with a small bag of potting mix, a packet of bulbs, some gloves and a small trowel or other tool will be received with delight by most gardeners. There are many hand tools at hardware stores that are reasonably priced.

If you feel that is too ordinary, how about a subscription to a gardening magazine? A tiny bit more expensive perhaps, but it will give twelve full months of delight. A book on gardening is another idea, but make sure your recipient does not already have the one you choose. Books are often heavily discounted at Christmas time, so you may get a bargain.

On the other hand, a pot that contains a flowering plant is usually a welcomed gift. Be sure to choose a plant that is suited to your climate. Sometimes plants are sent from tropical to temperate zones and kept in artificial conditions in the store. These plants will not do well once taken from their environment. Shrub roses are hardy and attractive and grow in many climates. Tulips do best in the cooler climate.

If your budget is strong, a more expensive tool may be appropriate. A pull-trolley is easier to use than a wheelbarrow and, like some electric tools, is still not terribly expensive. Small electric tools such as whipper-snippers can retail for as little as $20.00. Or if your friend has a hose but not a hose reel, then that would be a more useful gift that he would truly appreciate.

Automatic lawn mowers, electric cultivators, hedge trimmers and brush cutters are in the more expensive price range and you are the only one who can decide whether that is an appropriate gift. However, when the recipient realizes you have given a gift that complements his passion, expensive or not, it will certainly become the best gift your friend has ever received.
